Korea Expressway Corporation (EX) of South Korea was established in 1969 to construct and manage expressways throughout the nation. The organization wanted to improve customer service by allowing drivers to pay tolls by credit card instead of having to prepay. To achieve this goal, the company needed to replace its legacy HP hardware with an infrastructure solution that would support real-time transaction processing on a large scale. With the help of IBM Premier Business Partner SAP AG, EX migrated from HP to an IBM Power infrastructure. EX developed new toll collection applications that run on IBM Power 520 Express and IBM Power 570 servers. An IBM System Storage DS8300 device provides data storage, and an IBM System Storage TS3500 Tape Library provides backup and restoration.
