The Weidm?ller Group is a power, signals and data transmissions solution provider that has its own production facilities, sales companies and agencies. Weidm?ller is based in Richmond, Virginia and has more than 750 distributors and direct customers. The company wanted to receive at least 60% of its distributor orders electronically but they were receiving less than 30%. The primary reason for this was the company's website, which was cumbersome and lacked in functionality. The company brought in a LANSA consultant and built and implemented Weidmuller's first B2B solution. This was a website for its American distributors that was put in place within two months. The company has been able to replace an inflexible ebusiness solution for its JD Edwards World ERP with LANSA Commerce Edition increase their rate of online orders. They took one more month to customize the website according to specifications. The new Weidm?ller website can be surfed with part numbers so that distributors could simply key in all the items they needed to validate an entire order. At the same time, distributors and customers can create custom catalogues for items that they ordered frequently using the new format and functionalities of the portal. This way they can access stock and order without typing part numbers. The order can also be uploaded onto an Excel file with part numbers and quantities to the B2B site.
