Macquarie University has run its core student management system, financial, human resources, and research management applications on Oracle databases and Sun Fire 15K servers. By early 2007, however, the servers were reaching end of life and the university wanted to achieve application and database performance improvements that would enable more students to use the Web to manage their personal profiles, enroll in courses, and view exam results. Macquarie University turned to Oracle Real Applications Clusters to provide significant performance improvements, high availability and redundancy features, and support future growth. A five-node Oracle Database infrastructure runs on Dell PowerEdge 6800 servers and the Oracle Enterprise Linux operating system. The environment is mirrored at an offsite disaster recovery center.
