Marrickville Council: Council Reduces Desktop Deployment Times With Updated Operating System
Marrickville Council provides utility, planning, and community services in the Australia. The council staff uses a variety of software, from Microsoft Office 2007 applications to specialized finance, planning, and design applications. The council leases PCs for its employees, but replacing or upgrading desktops was complicated because the computers had to be configured by external vendors, and individually for each hardware type. To deploy new applications, IT staff had to interrupt employees at their workstations. In 2010, the council updated 375 computers to Windows 7 Enterprise and used Microsoft management tools to help automate the deployment process. As a result, the IT team can deploy new PCs in one day rather than five, and launch new applications in half an hour instead of three.
