Like most storage teams, the company at National Semiconductor over the last few years has worked to consolidate storage to maximize efficiency. This is a necessity when deployed storage is growing at 50% or more per year. However, because they have separate NAS and SAN systems, a level of inefficiency remains as a result of the two separate storage pools. Ultimately, the company discovered that they could overcome this limitation using NetApp V-Series storage virtualization systems to provide multiprotocol access to storage residing on the EMC SAN. They just recently reduced the costs by 50% by replacing two older NetApp FAS960 systems that they had on lease with V-Series systems backed by existing SAN storage.
