Executive Summary

Metcash is a large Australian food and fast-moving consumer goods marketing and distribution company that operates four businesses: Campbells Cash & Carry, IGA Distribution, IGA Fresh, and Australian Liquor Marketers. In late 2008, Metcash undertook a major hardware consolidation project at its Sydney-based data center, which saw the company replace a legacy UNIX-based server with a new IBM P6 server running the AIX operating system. As part of the consolidation project, Metcash upgraded to Oracle Database 11g. The company has been an Oracle user since 2004 when it replaced an unreliable, ageing database with Oracle Database and Oracle Data Warehouse Builder to build a more reliable data warehouse that provided sales managers with faster access to accurate sales data.
