For years, the cooking utensils manufacturer Berndes used the operating system Debian Linux and the office software OpenOffice.org. This caused various drawbacks. In particular with external contacts, OpenOffice.org created numerous compatibility problems. Linux also caused issues such as the lack of printer support. However, the effort needed for a complete rebuilding of the IT environment seemed too high for a long time. Only when Berndes had to replace its ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solution, was the decision made for a simultaneous conversion to Windows and other Microsoft products. For one, all ERP solutions under consideration require Windows as the operating system.
