Musical Musings: The Case for Rethinking Music Copyright Protection

For the copyright and music enthusiast, the history and development of the legal regime regarding music copyright is a fascinating and fiendishly complex one. In looking at the development of music copyright law, it is evident that both Congress and the courts have historically treated music just like other types of works of authorship, and, consequently have approached the legal issues of protection and infringement of music like those other types. The appropriation of the whole or of any substantial part of it without the license of the author is a piracy.
