The is a high-performance computing initiative funded BR Network by Petrobras, Brazil's national oil company. Designed to support the country's oil and gas industries, the BR Network is a computing grid spread across multiple state universities including the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Petrobras and Brazil's university alliance together implemented a High Performance Computing (HPC) network that includes Sun Blade server modules and the Lustre file system. The solution includes high-density blades with the Intel Xeon processor 5500 series, on-board QDR InfiniBand, and a new generation of electrical power and system cooling facilities.
