To maintain a competitive advantage, Curse decided to develop a desktop version of its web-based application, Curse Client. Offering a desktop client, as opposed to a web-based application, would allow the company to create a more scalable business model, offer a premium service to subscribers, and enhance the user interface. To speed development, Curse migrated to the Windows 7 Enterprise operating system and the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, along with Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional. Within nine months of deploying Curse Client v4 and offering a premium subscription service, Curse doubled its user base, added 45,000 premium subscribers, and slashed development time by more than 50 percent.
