A major nonprofit teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, Partners HealthCare was founded in 1994 by Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital to provide excellence in patient care and medical research. To support its medical research, Partners HealthCare maintains IT systems that help scientists and other researchers process massive amounts of data. Partners HealthCare wanted to explore a high-performance computing environment based on the Windows operating system. To learn about the technologies involved, the organization took part in customized engagements at a Microsoft Technology Center. The team increased its knowledge of the technology and gained greater confidence in its ability to implement and use it, which resulted in a five-times-faster project timeline.
