Washburn Center for Children has been serving children with social, emotional, and behavioral problems in Minnesota for 125 years. Approximately 75 Washburn employees regularly use Terminal Services to remotely connect to the LOB application. However, the system became inadequate within the infrastructure based on Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003. The center needed a scalable solution that would allow access for more simultaneous users and improve speed. Washburn considered upgrading its Citrix product. However, after weighing the costs, the availability of skills, interoperability capability, and performance, it decided to implement Windows Server 2008.
