With employee strength of 700,000 employees and around 36,000 facilities for handling hundreds of billions of pieces of mail each year in the United States, this company is among the global leaders when it comes to offering mailing and shipping services. Protecting its physical, personnel and information assets is one of the toughest challenges this historic organization has to face. The task requires coordination from multiple operating units in order to maximize security and minimize impact to the business. The organization wanted to develop and implement a standardized identification card template for its employees and contractors so as to enhance its physical security management. To achieve its goals, this company sought assistance from Deloitte, a leading business management and consulting services provider. Deloitte approached this task by first aligning the broader organizational goals of the client with the strategic objectives of the project. Deloitte made use of its Results Management Office (RMO) methodology for focusing on delivering strategic outcomes, directly linking program investments to the broader organizational goals, and industry best practices. This approach, combined with Deloitte's knowledge of the credentialing industry and Federal policy initiatives, provided the client with a winning solution. Deloitte first designed a uniform card template that would serve as the official identification; thereafter, it helped in creating a centralized database that would work with their Physical Access Control System (PACS). And finally, it assisted in printing the new identification cards by utilizing the data from the PACS.
