Flick the switch. Turn on the tap. People demand two things from their power or water utility: reliable service and the lowest rates possible. Such is the case for hundreds of thousands of customers around Jacksonville, Florida, who count on JEA for power and water. Consequently, the utility designs resilient systems to keep services reliable. And because it's not-for-profit, JEA focuses on driving down costs to keep rates low. With both these objectives in mind, the IT team at JEA has revisited the organization's approach to storage and servers in its data center. HP has enabled the team to exploit the benefits of virtualization in both areas and has put two new IT strategies into place. The results should make ratepayers happy.
