Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Manages Medical Equipment With eMED

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is a teaching tertiary hospital from Australia. Bioengineers at the hospital used LANSA to develop eMED. This was a Windows and SQL Server-based system. The system was brought in to maintain quality assurance for over AU$80 million of medical equipment. It also helped with purchasing and provision of radiation safety services. eMED was deployed with the help of LANSA partner Lateral WA. The eMED system was developed with LANSA Web Application Modules (WAMs) by two of the hospital's own biomedical engineers. They started after a four-day Visual LANSA training course by Lateral WA. Engineers started by creating a rich client deployment user interface. But they soon moved to because it does not require any installation of software other than the browser on the user's desktop. The eMED uses the knowledge of the biomedical engineering and IT to create a purpose-built management system that can particularly help work related to the medical equipment and radiation physics. Using the Lateral WA, eMED was implemented at the Bio-Medical Engineering department of the Western Australia Country Health Service. The system is further being modified to meet requirement of WACHS so that the database setup and workflow logic is constant.
