The University of Aberdeen in Scotland turned to IBM and Business Partner, Exanet, to help resolve its storage platforms for multiple platforms. With 16,000 users at the university, each working on various platforms, including Linux, UNIX and Windows, the University of Aberdeen needed to improve its storage environment to support multiple protocols and allocate storage easily. The University of Aberdeen chose ExaStore from Exanet and IBM Tivoli StorageManager, IBM TotalStorage and IBM System x servers. The ExaStore single-file system, based on TivoliStorage Manager, plus the Linux operating system running IBM TotalStorageDS4500, means that at Aberdeen there is now only one system to manage and back up.
