T-Systems, part of Deutsche Telekom, operates information and communication technology systems. Starting in 2010, every newly built house in Germany is required by law to have a smart meter to measure energy consumption. To meet those needs and to extend its service offering portfolio, T-Systems wanted to develop a solution that could measure power usage on single household devices as well as on complex building-infrastructure devices. T-Systems developed Stromboxx, a smart-metering solution that enables consumers to monitor the power consumption of devices that are connected to a wireless Local Area Network (LAN). Users can monitor consumption in near real-time to use less energy and save money.
