Executive Summary

The Associated Press (AP) is a not-for-profit news cooperative owned by its U.S. daily newspaper members. Its 3,700 employees - more than two-thirds of them journalists - provide news coverage in all media and formats from more than 300 locations worldwide. AP today is the largest, most trusted source of independent news and information. More than 800 members take advantage of AP's Custom News application which enables them to embed AP content into websites. AP had been supporting Custom News with 16 caching nodes to enable faster responses to content requests, but needed better scalability. After deploying Windows Server AppFabric, AP used AppFabric Caching Services to create a distributed cache, with the memory of all nodes pooled together.
