GE Shipping is India's largest private sector shipping company, has two main businesses: shipping and offshore. GE Shipping wanted rapid provisioning of new application servers while keeping datacenter power, cooling and real estate costs in check, reducing backup windows to complete overnight, lower hardware costs through improved CPU utilization. GE Shipping chose VMware to overcome these challenges. They implemented VMware virtualization which allowed them to meet and resolve the challenges laid out above including rapid provisioning of servers, consolidation of servers, reduction of power, cooling, and rack-space, and shortening of back up windows. The results of deploying VMware were achieved server consolidation ratio of 5:1, substantial reduction in administrative loads, improved CPU utilization from 20% to nearly 90%.
