Off late, with growing market demand for the ability to build applications based on the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 using the Delphi language, the company decided the time was right to deliver such a product. However, the internally developed Delphi Integrated Development Environment (IDE) would require significant work to support all .NET Framework 3.5 features and target plat-forms, which meant more development resources would need to work on core IDE support and less resources would be available to work on developer features. Embarcadero partnered with RemObjects Software to deliver a richer .NET Framework 3.5 product by building on the Visual Studio 2008 Shell, a base IDE for hosting tools and programming languages, which is freely available as a complement to the Visual Studio 2008 Software Development Kit.
