Turkcell Iletisim Hizmetleri (Turkcell), the leading communication and technology company in Turkey, wanted a standardised enterprise portal solution to improve customer service and staff productivity for its rapidly expanding business. With a reputation for innovation in IT, Turkcell decided to pilot the project in 2008. Managers decided on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 as the collaboration technology because of its excellent support compared to open source. Turkcell call centres handle 300,000 calls a day - up to 80 per cent of them answered using the information in the portal. The company deployed the solution in just five months, saving 50 per cent of planned development time.
