Executive Summary

The 13,800 + student Tempe (AZ) Elementary School District No. 3 recently purchased 1,400 new computers - two for every classroom in its 24 elementary and middle schools. The single Ethernet port in each room was already in use by existing PCs. With the wiring closets at capacity, the district would have had to pay almost $1,000 per classroom to bring the new computers online. School deployed 3Com's Power over Ethernet Single-Port and Multiport Midspan Solutions attached to Cisco 2900, 3500 and 5000 switches in wiring closets that brings all the academic power of school databases, server-based educational software, and the Internet to the school system's classrooms.
