Wodonga Council: Server Virtualisation Helps Council Cut Licence and Server Costs While Improving Services
Wodonga Council is a local government organisation responsible for a variety of services. They facing the challenges were the council used approximately 15 dedicated servers to run different core systems. IT staff wanted to improve server flexibility, so they could roll out specialist government applications faster and test updates more easily. If possible, they also wanted to reduce overall server costs. They chose Microsoft to overcome these challenges. They deployed Hyper-V as part of a Windows Server 2008 R2 deployment. As each server lease expires, staff virtualise that server, using Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager and Microsoft System Center Operations Manager. The benefits are reduced costs, more reliable platforms, increased power and flexibility of workloads.
