Today's work and multimedia environment confronts users with multiple Wi-Fi/WLAN exposures, wireless DSL at home, WLAN at the office and public hotspots at airports, conference centers, hotels or other public places. The generic functionality of the multi radio devices requires a fairly complex process of manual selection, authentication and switching of any hotspot, whenever users change their location. In addition, many applications need to be re-started once the network connection is lost during the switching process. As a result of these cumbersome steps, Wi-Fi/WLAN access from multi radio devices is not used to the extent it could and interesting cost-savings or revenue opportunities are often missed.
