A Cluster-Based Approach for Supporting QoS in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
Providing Quality of Service (QoS) for Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANET) is a challenging issue due to the dynamic nature and limited resources of such infrastructureless wireless networks. This paper proposes a new approach for supporting QoS in clustered MANET. The proposed Cluster-Based QoS (CBQoS) provides MANET with inter-cluster/intra-cluster service differentiation and aims to improve the overall performance of the network by increasing the overall network throughput and decreasing the overall end-to-end delay. CBQoS can be implemented as a standalone service differentiation system or be used with Differentiated Services (DiffServ) or other QoS models to enhance QoS provisioning in MANET. The simulation results show that the proposed approach achieves significant improvement in MANET's performance and QoS support.
