The ranking of fuzzy numbers has become an important component in the decision process. Ranking of fuzzy numbers is not an easy task as fuzzy numbers are represented by possibility distributions and they can overlap with each other. Since it was introduced, various approaches on ranking fuzzy numbers have been proposed which can be categorized into four major classes; preference relation, fuzzy mean and spread, fuzzy scoring and linguistic expression. This paper reviews the centroid index ranking method which is a sub-class of fuzzy scoring and also the most commonly used techniques in the application of ranking fuzzy numbers. Comparisons of formula of centroid point, the ranking index, the effectiveness in ranking normal, non-normal and all types of fuzzy numbers are made.
