Nowadays, there is a wide variety of network benchmarking tools, giving researchers and network administrators many choices to work with. However, this variety tends to difficult the selection process of the appropriate tool. Furthermore, sometimes users are forced to try several tools in order to find the one that calculates a given gauge, so they have to learn how to manipulate different tools and how to interpret obtained results. This paper offers a compilation of currently used network benchmarking tools, with the intention of guiding the selection of one tool over others, by outlining their main features, strengths and weaknesses.
