A Comparison of the Performance of Pulse Oximeters during Blood Pressure Cuff-Induced Hypo perfusion in Volunteers
Pulse oximetry is considered a standard of care in the operating room, Post anesthesia care unit, and in all critical care settings. In some patients, the pulse oximeter sensors must be placed on the same arm as the blood pressure cuff. While this is not in accordance with the manufacturers' stated recommendations for accurate readings, clinical situations arise which often dictate this usage. The purpose of this study was to compare the performance of different pulse oximeters during blood pressure cuff-induced Hypoperfusion.
