Distributed market based models are frequently used for resource allocation on the computational grid. But, as the grid size grows, it becomes more difficult for a customer to directly negotiate with all the grid resource providers. Middle agents are introduced to mediate between the providers and customers so as to facilitate effective resource allocation process. This paper presents a new market based model called Cooperative Modeler for mediating resource negotiation. By pooling resources together in a cooperative manner, the resource providers can combine sales returns, operating expenses and distribute sales efficiently among members in proportion to the volume of contribution over a specified time.
