A Cross Layer Based Early Initiation of Layer 3 Handover in WiMAX Networks
Handover Management in Mobile WiMAX is a crucial factor in providing seamless mobility to the users. In an Internetwork when a user moves from one network to another a Layer 3 (L3) HandOver (HO) is required for IP reconnection. Since layer 3 HO is triggered by Layer 2 (L2) Handover process L3 Handover has to wait for L2 Handover procedures to be completed. Now the handover latency includes L2 handover and L3 handover latencies. A cross layer design which performs L3 HO parallel with L2 HO is required to reduce the handover latency. The cross layer design must consider timely generation of L2 trigger and avoid false L2 trigger. It should integrate L2 and L3 management messages and a two way signaling between L2 and L3.
