In this paper, the authors propose a fully distributed scheme that uses a subset of nodes, namely ferries, to perform geographical broadcast tasks in a Mobile Ad Hoc NETwork (MANET). This scheme, referred to as the GeoFerry scheme, is to the best of their knowledge, one of the first scheme which adopts the deployment of ferries to address the geocast problem. Based on a theoretical analysis of the time intervals between the nodes' consecutive arrivals in a particular area in the network, they further improved the performance of the GeoFerry scheme by reducing the overall delay. Extensive simulations are carried out to validate the theory and the performance of their proposed scheme.
