The demand for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) is growing exponentially today. WiMAX, an abbreviation for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, based upon the IEEE 802.16 standard, is one of the most popular BWA technologies today. Besides the capability of providing high data rate over a wide range, the evolution of utilizing scheduling algorithm in WiMAX's Media Access Control (MAC) layer guarantees the Quality of Service (QoS) of users' data flow. It is also more bandwidth efficient as compared to today's existing BWA techniques. Ultimately, WiMAX aims to provide high-speed, compatible and interoperable solutions across multiple broad band segments, which makes it a promising candidate for the next generation BWA technique.
