Capacity Management definitions can be found in many places on the Internet, including many IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) sites. The definitions can be both wordy and confusing. The author will leave it to those sources for the definitive explanation. For a brief, high level definition, Capacity Management is a set of work processes associated with the provisioning and management of IT infrastructure resources, such as servers, printers and telecommunications devices, used to support business processes in a cost effective manner. Capacity Management work processes include monitoring, reporting, tuning, planning and predictive modeling.
