A New Model for the Simulation of the LTE-EPC Data Plane
The authors present a new simulation model for ns-3 aimed at the simulation of the data plane of LTE-EPC networks. Built on their prior work that dealt mainly with the PHY, MAC and Scheduler functionality of LTE, this new model adds support for the LTE RLC and PDCP protocol, together with EPC data plane features such as the S1-U interface and the SGW and PGW entities. The resulting model supports the simulation of end-to-end IP connectivity over LTE-EPC in a much more detailed fashion than what allowed by other previously published models. In this paper, they provide an overview of the design criteria and architecture of the proposed model, followed by a description of the testing and profiling of its implementation.
