Smart antennas are widely used in wireless mobile communications as they can increase the channel capacity and coverage range. In smart antenna, to locate the desired signal, various Direction Of Arrival (DOA) estimation algorithms are used. In this paper, a new Eigen Vector algorithm for Direction Of Arrival (DOA) estimation is developed, based on eigen value decomposition and normalization of covariance matrix. Unlike the classical Maximum Likelihood Method (MLM) and Maximum Entropy Method (MEM) algorithms the proposed method only involves the determination of noise subspace eigen vectors which provides better resolution and bias as compared to existing DOA algorithms.
