The implementation of new technology is clearly one of the most lengthy, expensive and complex tasks that a firm can undertake (Small and Chen, 1995). In recent years, many sectors of manufacturing, such as aerospace and their related supply chain industries, have been reported as being significant investors in Information Technology (IT) and/or Information Systems (IS) (CEAS 1997 ; Irani et al., 1998). The super-convergence of many forms of on-line, remote and mobile computing devices means that investing in new IT projects is becoming a significant matter of concern (Farbey et al., 1993; Willcocks, 1994; Butler, 1997).
