This paper investigates the dynamic subcarrier allocation problem of uplink Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) systems. A kind of stepwise subcarrier allocation algorithm is formulated, which allocates the subcarriers in two steps: subcarrier to group allocation and the subcarrier to user allocation. On this foundation, for meeting different transmission system requirements, a stepwise greedy algorithm and a stepwise fair algorithm are derived by integrating different allocation strategies with the two-steps allocation processes respectively. The performance of the proposed algorithms is analyzed in terms of four aspects: computational complexity, rate-sum capacity, allocation fairness and system average bit error rate.
