Face recognition has long been a goal of computer vision, but only in recent years reliable automated face recognition has become a realistic target of biometrics research. Face recognition systems are increasingly being deployed in a wide range of practical applications. In this paper, an overview of some of the well-known methods in each of these categories is provided and some of the problems faced by the face recognition system are mentioned. This paper also mentions some of the algorithms developed for this purpose and attempts to give an idea of the state of the art of face recognition technology.
