A Survey of Routing Protocols of Wireless Sensor Networks

Networked micro-sensor technology is a key technology for the future. It has been identified as one of the most important technologies for the 21st century and is regarded to revolutionize information gathering and processing in applications (Heinzelman et al., 1999). Advances in Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and low-power integrated digital electronics have inspired the development of micro-sensors (Sohrabi, 2000). Such sensors are generally equipped with date processing, communication, and information collecting capabilities. They can detect the variation of ambient conditions in the environment surrounding the sensors and transform them into electric signals.
