Executive Summary

Data security is a major and increasingly interested area of research in data mining. Cryptographic techniques have proved beneficial in secured distributed computation. Many techniques have been under research to achieve privacy protection for sensitive data. In this paper, the authors first provide an overview on important cryptographic techniques used in privacy preserving data mining. Then, a brief evaluation of each technique is done to point out merits and demerits of the same. From the very beginning of human race endowed with language, there are confidential or say secret messages that are intended for a smaller community. How can these messages be transmitted secretly, so that no unauthorized person gets knowledge of the content of message, is the main concern for privacy preserving.
