Group key management is an important functional building block for any secure multicast architecture. Thereby, it has been extensively studied in the literature. In this paper the authors present relevant group key management protocols. Then, they compare them against some pertinent performance criteria phenomenal growth of the Internet in the last few years and the increase of bandwidth in today's networks have provided both inspiration and motivation for the development of new services, combining voice, video and text "Over IP".
