The authors address the problem of selecting troopers to intercept vehicles that are flagged as suspect by a variety of sensors. They model the Alabama State route network using a graph in which edges represent road segments between mileposts and/or intersections. With this model as the topology for a wireless network, the authors describe a message passing protocol that will provide directed message dissemination from the sensors to the troopers and back again. The protocol will select the trooper closest to the suspect. They evaluate the range sensors should send messages when attempting to locate a trooper to select.
