The Analog Front End (AFE) of the various PowerLine Communication (PLC) standards like HomePlug, IEEE P.1901 etc, requires an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) at the side of the receiver to digitize the filtered analog signal that is transmitted over a domestic power line network. The sampling rate adopted by the contemporary commercial PLC systems is less than 20-30MHz but the IEEE P.1901 proposes sampling frequencies up to 100MHz. A resolution of 8-12bits with a sampling rate of less than 100MS/s is adequate for most existing PLC commercial systems.
