AES: A Symmetric Key Cryptographic System

With the introduction of the computer, the need for automated tools for protecting files and other information stored on the computer became evident. Security is always a major concern in the field of communication. Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm is a popular Symmetric Key Cryptographic Scheme that guarantee confidentiality and authenticity over an insecure communication channel. This paper presents the fundamental mathematics behind the AES algorithm along with a brief description of some cryptographic primitives that are commonly used in the field of communication security.
