Algorithms for Automated Design of Tactical Wireless Networks
Thus far, network design has relied on discrete-event simulators that measure performance metrics. The design of future tactical networks prior to battlefield deployment faces significant challenge due to the diversity of algorithms/protocols that can be used and the variety of parameters/parameter settings. In this paper, the authors study how to automatically select algorithms and parameter settings to achieve a desired objective and satisfy certain constraints. Testing all possible combinations of parameter settings has significant time complexity. Thus, they propose a novel heuristic (SEquential Parameter Optimization or SEPO) for searching through the possible settings and selecting the design options.
