In this paper, the authors present an analytical model based on a Markov chain to compute the performance of the GTS allocation mechanism in IEEE 802.15.4 standard. In this, theoretical analysis gives accurate numerical results, by using the network calculus. The authors evaluate the stability of the queue size at the network coordinator, the delay to serve a GTS request, and to achieve throughput for different traffic patterns and protocol parameters. They derive the dependence of the average delay and queue size as a function of the number of requests.
