Anonymous Traceback of Network Data Packets

Since its early days, the Internet has witnessed not only a phenomenal growth, but also various security attacks, some even designed to cause large-scale service disruptions often for extended periods of time. In recent years, Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks have emerged as one of the top threats to the Internet community given the relative ease and low costs of launching such attacks. While various DDoS attack prevention, mitigation, and traceback techniques have been explored in the past, the practical infeasibility of deploying these defense mechanisms further undermines the current woeful state of Internet security.
