This paper discussed the necessity of applications of multimedia in teaching of the course of steel structure. It also described the advantages of multimedia teaching methods through the aspects of the intuitive, dynamics, interactivity, capacity, recurrence and simulation. It also mentioned the important role of multimedia teaching mothers in helping students to think visually and to understand the concepts of mechanics. In addition, it pointed out the inadequacy of multimedia teaching and proposed the improvement measures for the multimedia courseware.
