ASP: A Distributed Detailed Passive Monitoring Toolkit

IP networks and its usage are ubiquitous and essential parts of everyday life for tens of millions of people around the world. Every minute of every day vast amounts of data generated by innumerable applications flow across these IP networks. However, the true shape of the network as a whole or its fundamental characteristic has proven difficult to define. ASPath is an attempt to provide the framework for this missing view so that network researchers may better understand the current and evolving nature of wide area networks. By using a distributed series of passive data collectors a logical BGP map of a monitored network is created that shows the size, nature and direction of traffic flows.
