Over the past decade, the safety of the Food and Beverage Industry's supply chain has fallen under increasing scrutiny due to the high number of food-borne deaths, illnesses and recalls. Each year 76 million cases of food-borne illnesses litter the country and yet only 1 percent of the imported fruits, vegetables and seafood items are inspected. A number of recent issues have sprung from an insecure and inefficient supply chain.
